Bali has very limited public transport, so most visitors use private drivers, ride-hailing apps or scooters. Traffic in the south can be slow.

Private driver

Hiring a car and driver for a day (about 8 to 10 hours) is popular and affordable for sightseeing.

Grab and Gojek

Cheap and reliable for cars and motorbike taxis in the south and Ubud. Some villages have local taxi rules, so pickups may be refused.

Scooters

Common, but only ride if you hold a licence valid for motorbikes, including an International Driving Permit, and always wear a helmet. Many insurance policies exclude unlicensed riding.

Boats

Fast boats connect Sanur with the Nusa islands, and Padang Bai or Serangan with the Gili Islands and Lombok.

Driving
