Dry season (April–October)
Sunnier, less humid and best for beaches, hiking and diving. July, August and late December are the busiest and most expensive.
Wet season (November–March)
Short, heavy downpours, usually in the afternoon or night, with lush landscapes and lower prices. The west coast surf is better on the east side in this season.
Shoulder months
April, May, June and September offer good weather and fewer crowds; they are often the best value.
Festivals
Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, falls in March or April; the whole island including the airport closes for 24 hours. Galungan and Kuningan happen every 210 days with decorated penjor poles.
Altitude
Ubud and the highlands are cooler and wetter than the south.
