Who it suits

Couples and groups who want restaurants, spas, shopping and sunset drinks without the rowdiness of Kuta.

Best streets

Jalan Kayu Aya (Eat Street) and Jalan Petitenget have the best concentration of dining. Petitenget and Batu Belig, just north, are a little quieter and close to well-known beach clubs.

The beach

The beach is wide and good for sunsets, but the surf is strong and swimming is only safe between the flags where lifeguards patrol.

Getting around

Traffic is heavy at peak times, so pick a hotel close to where you want to spend evenings. Grab and Gojek work well here.

Trade-offs

Prices are higher than elsewhere in Bali and it is busy. It is not the place for traditional village life.
